This morning, I rushed out of bed to listen to Lana Del Rey's newly-released single "West Coast." Lana is probably my favorite artist of today, because of the way she takes pieces from the nostalgic music that I love and seamlessly projects them into a modern sound. After hearing the first few lines of the song, I was surprised because the sound is very different from what Lana usually puts out. When the haunting melody of the chorus came on, though, I immediately knew that I loved it. Listening to this ballad makes me really long for the West Coast. I have magical memories of visiting California when I was a child. Orange trees, pink motels, carnivals on the boardwalk, the salty sea. I'll get there, one day. I can see my sweet boy swingin'... This is a song I'll have on repeat all summer long.
